How One Car Accident Can Ruin Your Retirement

1/8/2016

You worked your whole life…saved…invested wisely…avoided market risk and are set up to have a financially worry-free retirement.  Then it happens…a momentary lack in judgement on a dark and rainy night.  Driving home from the grocery store you feel a thud followed by a sickening scream.

Someone you never saw was crossing the road in a crosswalk and you hit them causing serious bodily harm.  Regardless of how or why, you are now facing serious liability issues.

There goes a lifetime of great financial planning down the drain…just like that.

Well, it doesn’t have to be that way.  There are ways to protect you, your family and your assets from circumstances like this.  One such way is liability insurance.  The questions then become how much should you get, how much does it cost and where can you go to get it.

Tune in this Wednesday, 1/13/16 at 9:30am (or anytime thereafter via podcast) by clicking here to hear this latest installment of Wicked Insurance Matters Radio Show with Greg Durette, How One Car Accident Can Ruin Your Retirement.

To help drive these and other points home, I am pleased to welcome Attorney Karl Vrana, the principal of Vrana Law Offices located in Raynham, MA as my guest this week.  He is one of the country’s top personal injury lawyers and will share his experiences in this area.  Experience is something he happens to have quite a bit of.  After graduating from Suffolk University Law School in 1974, J.D. cum laude, he went on to build a preeminent firm in the field of personal injury and medical malpractice law among many other concentrations.  Besides being a member of all local and State bar associations, he has also committed to serve his local community through various elected positions in town government. Professionally, he has helped his clients collect many millions of dollars in settlements for all manner of unfortunate happenstances.

He can be reached at 508-822-7300 or via email at [email protected].

This is an important show if you are interested in protecting the assets we help you build.

2016 promises to be a wild ride...especially for your money!  We have a Presidential election, interest rates creeping up, terrorism messing with oil prices and a whole host of other major (and minor) events looking to make keeping your money safe a daunting challenge.

Thank goodness the Wicked Insurance Matters Radio Show with Greg Durette is here with the next show titled, Money Trends for 2016!  Just click the show title to hear it live, this Wednesday, 1/6/16 at 9:30am Eastern time or, anytime after on this blog page.

This show will discuss these events as well as many of the strategies you can use to secure and grow your money and income regardless of these circumstances.

No, we will not be recommending putting your money in your mattress or burying it in a coffee can (I actually have wild and crazy story about that very thing) but, will be making some creative and well-worn suggestions to get the most out of your money...and hopefully help you sleep better too!

So grab a cup of coffee, sit back and relax.  2016 is here.  The time to be ready is now.

2015...The Year in Review

12/28/2015

Well, we made it!  2015 is nearly in the books and all the hope and promise of 2016 is ready to burst forth into our lives!

Besides being the year the greatest radio show on earth was launched (you know, Wicked Insurance Matters Radio Show with Greg Durette, of course), it would be safe to say it was an interesting and challenging year for our country and the world, to say the least.

We saw the "JV" team rise to a global threat while non-politicians stole the thunder from seasoned veterans.  We saw the stagnation of Wall Street and the economy heralded by certain "journalists" and pundits as the great recovery.  Riots, natural disasters, and "lone wolf" attacks seem to be the new normal.

To recap these events and many others, as well as connect the dots on how all these things make a difference in your ability to earn save and retire, tune in this Wednesday, 12/30/15 from 9:30-10:00am EDT and listen to the show titled, 2015…The Year in Review!

I will do my very best to get in as many of the events that shaped our year as time allows.  With any luck, we may even learn a thing or two about what we can do in 2016 to make things even better for ourselves and our families.

I look forward to your ears.

Happy New Year!

The Most Un-PC PC Radio Show Ever!

Do you want to say Merry Christmas but, feel like people will unfairly judge you?  Do you want to say Happy Hanukkah but think people will judge you even more harshly?!  Do you say Happy Holidays just to make sure you are not offending PC correctness?!!

Well, if any of these are the case, you need to tune in this Wednesday 12/23/15 at 9:30am EDT by clicking this show titled Holidays v. PC Means Saving $ and relax as I explain how TRUE political and religious correctness can release you from the binds foisted upon you by a broadcast media gone insane.  And in the true spirit of my show, you will learn how this can save you money as well...go figure!?

This is going to be one of the most provocative and insightful shows I have ever done.  You will love or hate it.  Either way, I hope it will inspire you to think and enjoy your holiday all the more.

After all, holidays have nothing to do with money and control.  They are just about love and family...right?

Tune in and get some answers...if not the answer.  I look forward to your ears.  Be well.

Oh and, by the way, there will be a very interesting mix of holiday music/sound bites which may or may not be qualified under the current definition of PC.  Enjoy!

Merry Christmas!

Your Questions Answered

12/7/2015

The funny thing about topics like Annuities, Life Insurance Disability Insurance and Long Term Care issues is, they become very personal to each person.  Consequently, folks tend to want their very personal questions answered privately so as to keep their business confidential.  It is why most folks will contact me after a show with their questions.

The other funny thing is, oftentimes, these questions are asked by many others...not just one.  So, I decided to air some of the most common questions and my answers in this show in the hope many will benefit and get their "private" questions answered too.

Click here to listen to Your Questions Answered airing live, 12/9/15 at 9:30am Eastern or anytime after via this archive.

I will cover the questions of:

  • Can I leave my life insurance to my grandchild?
  • How can I protect my estate from my daughter's former spouse?
  • Do I need a trust?
  • Should I buy Long Term Care insurance or just let the State take care of me?
  • My employer gives me disability insurance so why should I spend money on a policy of my own?
  • When does a Buy/Sell agreement for my business become an unfunded liability?
  • What are the differences between and IRA, Roth IRA, 401k and 403b?
  • How can annuities help me with taxes?
  • How can I make sure I never outlive my money?
  • and many more...
These are an example of the most common questions I see and will answer for you.  Strap yourself in as this will be a fast paced show covering many subjects and scenarios.

Good thing it is archived on this blog!

Take good notes and, if you find I did not cover your particular question, reach out to me directly at 978-509-2941.

Underwriting Challenges and Answers

Sounds like a pretty boring subject, right?!  Well, not if you are one of the millions of people that have avoided getting life insurance because of:

  • Diabetes
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Breast Cancer
  • Sleep Apnea
  • Family Health Issues
  • Blood Pressure
  • Overweight
  • Marijuana
  • and many other lifestyle and health issues!

Please tune in to Underwriting Challenges and Answers this Wednesday, 9:30 – 10:00am Eastern time.  Click the show name to listen live!

This show will dive in and give some real world examples of how to manage the underwriting process so you can get the coverage you need, at an affordable price, regardless of conditions like these.  You and your family need to know this information!

To help with this show, I have asked Seth Legatowicz, one of the country's top experts in the life insurance industry, to once again be my guest.

As a reminder, Seth, based in Dallas, TX, graduated from the University of Texas with a Major in Economics and a Minor in Finance in 1995 and began his professional life as a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch in 1996 before specializing in life insurance planning since 1998.

He has helped thousands of clients across the country find the best priced options on their life insurance.  A sub-specialty has been his ability to help clients with "impaired risks" such as the health and lifestyle issues noted above, as well as foreign travel, piloting, scuba diving, mountain climbing, etc. get the insurance they want and need.

Seth can be reached via email at [email protected] or by calling him at 214-272-2769.

Turkey Table Talk

11/24/2015

You are invited to tune in to the next Wicked Insurance Matters with Greg Durette Radio Show which airs LIVE, this and every Wednesday, 9:30 – 10:00am Eastern time.

This week’s show is titled, Turkey Table Talk.

What’s that?  Well, hopefully it’s not a long conversation with the big hunk of steaming protein in the middle of your table!

What this show will be about is how to seize upon the opportunity to have some real, meaningful conversations with family members you might only see on holidays such as Thanksgiving.  Sure it is good to have all the “catch up” conversations about who is doing what and where but, what about the stuff that really matters?

·       How are our grandparents/parents managing their money these days?

·       Are they paying their bills okay?

·       Is my aunt a victim of elder financial abuse?

·       Have there been any changes in healthcare?

·       Have they had any problems online?

·       Do they use support services in the community?

·       How are they getting around town?

These are just some of the things you want and need to know but, somehow never get around to asking.  Sometimes, many red flags are missed that could have otherwise been noticed and a bad situation could been prevented from developing or getting out of hand.

So sit back and tune in to learn how to get these important subjects out in the open.  You will be surprised how good everyone will feel about it once you do.

You need to get the facts and get them right.  Start by listening to the show and get professional advice from folks like us at #FutureSecuredFinancial.  That can help you get started on your “Guided Research”.

FYI, you can find info about this upcoming show or any previous show on my blog at www.FutureSecuredFinancial.com , Twitter @GregDurette, LinkedIn at Gregory Durette and Facebook at Future Secured Financial.

Keep in mind, all shows are recorded so, if you miss one, just go to my blog to look it up and listen in.  You can listen to last week’s show with my guest, Barbara-Anne Foley, Executive Director of the Harwich Council on Aging right here, Elder Financial Abuse Prevention.

The following week’s show (12/2/15) will have Seth Legatowicz returning as my guest to discuss the thing that is always on your mind when thinking about life insurance.  That is, will my medical condition make it impossible for me to get a great price or not.  The show is called “Underwriting Issues Answered” and will get into a whole host of things like diabetes, prostate cancer, blood pressure issues and much more.
